@NMStateMTEN Falls to UNM on St. Patty's Day

The NM State men’s tennis team dropped a 4-0 match to Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico on Sunday.

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico State men's tennis team didn't get the result they wanted Sunday afternoon, falling to Battle of I-25 rival New Mexico 4-0 at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium.

The Aggies held their own in doubles play, but it just wasn't enough as it dropped matches on courts No. 1 and No. 2 respectively to give the Lobos a 1-0 edge.

Singles action saw Mauri Benitez fall in his match on court No. 5 6-0, 6-2 against Facundo Bermejo before Stijn de Haan was bested at No. 1 singles by Ricky Hernandez Tong 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. The loss by Louis Menard on court No. 2 shortly after saw UNM clinch the match. Martin Simicek and Enrique Asmar were leading in the third set after rallying from down one set when New Mexico clinched the match.

NM State will hit the south this weekend as it prepares to face off against Southern Miss (March 24) and New Orleans (March 25).
