LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State track and field travels to California for three meets over the weekend. The Aggies are set to compete at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State, as well as the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, from April 18-20.
During the Aggies last meet,
Camira Haughton was the top finisher in the 400m at the Ross Black Invitational when the she clocked in at 54.77 for the event. The time was a personal best for the sprinter and ranked fifth in the NM State record books. Haughton's personal record also placed her second on the WAC performance list. She was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week following the impressive performance
In the hammer throw,
Taniya Mitchell came away with the first-place finish and a new personal best when she threw 58.42m (191-8). The throw ranked second in the New Mexico State record books. Mitchell also holds the top mark on the conference performance list for the event.
The javelin event at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate starts at 10 a.m. MT on Thursday. The women's steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational begins on Thursday at 5:20 p.m. At the Beach Invitational, the long jump is set for 11 a.m. while the 10,000m is set for 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
