Aggies Sweep WAC Weekly Honors

Mya Felder and Samaria Diaz came away with conference honors following a stellar week.

DENVER – New Mexico State softball's Mya Felder and Samaria Diaz were named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. This is Felder's first ever honor and the second honor of the season and career for Diaz.

Felder hit .571 with a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage in five games last week. She was 8-of-14 on the week with six extra-base hits, two doubles and four home runs. The freshman scored six runs and had nine RBIs when the Aggies posted a 4-1 record. Felder hit a home run in each of NM State's run-rule victories over New Mexico. She also had a pair of homers in the series finale against Utah Valley when she went 3-for-3 with two RBIs to help New Mexico State clinch the series.

Diaz went 3-0 with a 0.30 ERA in four appearances last week. She posted a pair of complete-game shutouts and struck out 38 batters over 23.0 innings. Against New Mexico, Diaz pitched a perfect game through five innings before allowing the lone hit of the contest. She tied her career high for strikeouts in the outing with 13. During the series opener against Utah Valley, the junior pitched a complete game, allowing no runs on six hits while striking out 10. In the first game of the doubleheader against the Wolverines on Saturday, she pitched 3.0 innings in relief and did not give up a hit while striking out four. Diaz then threw a complete game in the series finale, striking out 11 and allowing her first and only run of the weekend during the final inning.

The Aggies hit the road for a series at California Baptist. New Mexico State faces the Lancers in a doubleheader on Friday, April 12 beginning at 1 p.m. MT. NM State closes the series with a second twin bill on Saturday, April 13, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. The first three game are set to count towards league play.
