MARICOPA, Ariz. – The New Mexico State women's golf team completed play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic on Tuesday at the Southern Dunes Golf Club. The Aggies squad finished in third out of 20 teams with a score of 885 (+21) and junior
Pun Chanachai won the individual title to set a new NM State program record with her sixth career individual victory to pass former Aggie and current LPGA golfer Alena Sharp.
Chanachai's record-setting tournament finish featured a three-round scorecard of 67-69-72—208 (-8) to finish in first place, out of 108 golfers, by four strokes.
Dominique Galloway also posted a top-5 finish after firing a 72-72-70—214 (-2) to tie for fourth. The two Aggie golfers also joined also joined just one other tournament individual as the only golfers to card an eagle at the event.
Angela Xu finished in a tie for 56
th after shooting a 78-74-78—230 (+14).
Chantal Dueringer followed three strokes behind at 76-80-77—233 (+17) to tie for 72
nd and
Kehler Koss rounded out the starting lineup in 106
th at 90-81-79—250 (+34).
Maria Prado, competing as an individual, finished in a tie for 32
nd after firing a 72-75-79—226 (+10).
At the end of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic the team leaderboard saw UTEP take home first place with a team score of 883 (+19), followed by Santa Clara inn second at 884 (+20) and NM State completed the top-three shooting an 885 (+21).
That was the final event of the regular season for the Crimson & White as the New Mexico State women's golf team now gets set for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, April 18-20, in Lakewood, Wash. at the Oakbrook Golf Course.
