OREM, Utah – New Mexico State track and field continued its run at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Hal Wing Track & Field on Friday. The Aggies sit in second place with 64 points after the second day of competition.
In the event finals for the 3,000m steeplechase,
Elana Kresl brought home the silver when she posted a time of 11:02.66.
Corinne Hanson took eighth in the event, recording a time of 11:14.62.
Lashira Tremble clocked in with the top time in the 100m preliminaries. The junior ran 11.64 in the event for a new personal record. The time ranks second in the Aggie record books.
Keosha Sanders ran 11.84 to finish third in the event.
Camira Haughton finished in second during the 400m preliminaries when she recorded a time of 54.32.
Takiyah Johnson took fifth in the event, running 55.85 during the race.
During the 200m, Tremble came in second with a time of 24.07 while Haughton clocked in at 24.38 to finish in sixth.
Asjah Wallace also made event finals, finishing in eighth with a time of 24.42.
Crissey Amberg and
Leah Salazar made event finals for the 800m. Amberg clocked in at 2:10.76 while Salazar posted a time of 2:15.98 to finish in fifth and eighth, respectively.
For the 100m hurdles, Wallace and
Arniesha Mitchell made event finals. Wallace came in second during the preliminaries when she clocked in at 14.00. Mitchell finished in third when she posted a time of 14.45.
Elizabeth Mendoza posted a personal-best time 1:02.81 in the 400m hurdles when she came in first during the event preliminaries.
In the shot put,
Yemisi Oroyinyin was the top NM State finisher when she came in fourth with a mark of 14.19m (46-6.75).
Taniya Mitchell followed closely behind in fifth when she threw 13.85m (45-5.25).
Hannah Smith came in ninth in the finals for the long jump, posting a mark of 5.63m (18-5.75)
The championship meet comes to a close on Saturday, May 11. Field events begin at noon and running events start at 3:30 p.m. with live streaming available on
