Albuquerque, N.M. – Following a season-opening meet in Lubbock, NM State stayed in the Land of Enchantment, heading north up I-25 to the Albuquerque Convention Center to compete at the MLK Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico. For the second straight week, senior
Alesha Lane recorded a new best mark that rewrote her name in the NM State record books.
FRIDAY
The aforementioned Lane followed up her third-place performance at the Corky Classic with a weight throw distance of 18.53 meters (60-9.50"), taking fourth in Albuquerque. Alongside Lane, freshman
Avery Jordan 13.78m (45-2.50") and
Julia Nystrand 14.41m (47-3.50") tallied new personal bests in the event.
Aileen Alvarado made her season debut for the Aggies, finishing with a mark of 1.56m in the high jump.
Aja Johnson tallied a new personal best in the long jump, recording a distance of 5.51m (18-1.00"). This mark is the best among Aggies through the first two weeks of the season.
In the 200m, sophomore
Jaylah McDonnell posted a new season-best time of 24.45, the fastest time among the Crimson & White in 2026.
Julissa Daniels improved upon her season-opening time at the Corky Classic to post a new personal best of 25.50.
SATURDAY
McDonnell and Daniels returned to the track on Saturday as the lone Aggies to compete in the 60m dash, posting new personal record marks of 7.86 and 7.97, respectively.
A trio of NM State student-athletes competed in the mile, with
Marlene Mosqueda posting an altitude-adjusted time of 5:05.84, a new personal best for the junior and fastest among Aggies on Saturday. Eloïse Stuart improved to a time of 5:12.44@ after competing in the event in Lubbock.
Ainsleigh Kasprick suited up in the 800m for the first time with the Crimson & White, crossing the line with a mark of 2:16.22@.
Alesha Lane took fourth place for the second time in Albuquerque, posting a mark of 14.94m (49-0.25") in the shot put. This represents a new personal best for the Casper, Wyo., native, and now ranks as the third-best distance in program history.
Julia Nystrand (12.30m) and
Avery Jordan (11.79m) tallied new personal bests in the event, following event debuts at the Corky Classic, while
Samonne Cauley and
Ellie Breckenridge made their season debuts.
Cameron Hodges made her 2026 debut in the triple jump, the sole Aggie to compete in the event, posting a best distance of 11.58m (38-0").
A 4x400 team comprised of sprinters and mid-distance runners, including
Julissa Daniels, Adela Steinsova, Eloïse Stuart and
Marlene Mosqueda, closed the weekend in the Duke City with a time of 3:57.77.
UP NEXT
The Aggies return to the Albuquerque Convention Center for its second of three meets up north, competing at the New Mexico Team Open, slated for Jan. 30-31, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
