LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State track and field gets set for the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from May 9-11. The three-day meet takes place at Hal Wing Track & Field and is hosted by Utah Valley.
Grand Canyon was picked as the favorite to win the conference championship on the women's side, receiving seven first place votes and 63 points overall. NM State finished close behind with 56 points and two first place votes. Utah Valley was chosen to finish third and had a total of 51 points. UT Rio Grande Valley grabbed the fourth spot with 44 points. Kansas City claimed the fifth-place spot with 34 points while California Baptist followed with 30. Seattle U snagged 19 points closely followed by CSU Bakersfield with 18. Chicago State finished the poll with nine points.
Lashira Tremble comes into the meet with the top league time in the 100m, clocking with a wind-aided time of 11.64. For the 100m hurdles,
Asjah Wallace leads the league with a wind-legal time of 13.76. The 4x100m relay for the Aggies also post the top time so far this season, running 46.27.
For the field events,
Hannah Smith holds the time mark in the triple jump at 12.59m (41-3.75).
Taniya Mitchell's mark of 59.56m (195-5) paces the league.
Kayli Farmer comes in with a conference-best throw of 42.53m (139-6) in the javelin.
The championship meet is set to begin on Thursday, May 9, at 10 a.m. MT with the combined events and field events. Running events begin at 6 p.m. Fans can follow along with the action on
