LAS CRUCES, N.M. - One of the best collegiate baseball players in the country has claimed another national award.

Nick Gonzales was named the Summer Collegiate Player of the Year by Perfect Game Monday, receiving the honor after his historic campaign with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
Gonzales tore the cover off the ball in 42 regular-season games over the summer, recording a league-high 54 hits, including a league-leading 14 doubles and four triples. He swatted seven home runs, sixth most on the Cape, drew 20 walks and scored a league-high 39 runs en route to taking home the league's Most Valuable Player recognition.
The native of Vail, Arizona, shined in the playoffs, compiling a .361 average with league highs in hits (13) and RBI (8), to lead the Kettleers to a Cape Cod League championship for a league-record 17th time.
A unanimous All-American in 2019, Gonzales put together one of the best offensive seasons in Aggie program history, slashing .432/.532/.773 with 16 home runs, 80 RBI, 19 doubles and four triples as a sophomore. He recorded the sixth-most hits (95) in team history for a single season in addition to finishing with the fifth-highest batting average and fifth-most runs scored (80) in school history for a season.
The second basemen led the nation in batting average while also ranking in the top ten nationally in slugging percentage (third), hits (fourth), runs (fourth), RBI (fifth), OBP (fifth), total bases (sixth) and sacrifice flies (eighth). He was a finalist for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award and a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes National Player of the Year Award.
