LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State volleyball team hosted its annual Crimson and White scrimmage at the Pan American Center on Saturday. The White squad swept Crimson 25-15, 25-19, 27-25 during the annual match.
In the first set, White dominated with Natalie Mikels and Krysten Garrison guiding the offense. Megan Hart and Julianna Salanoa made the most of their attempts out of the middle and Jordan George was commanding in the back court.
Crimson, comprised of many new faces, put up a fight in the second set, going back-and-forth for most of the contest. Freshmen Autumn Gentry and Brie Mortensen showed leadership at the setter position despite the loss and Lindsay Blakey stepped up in the middle for the team.
The third set saw both squads battling point-for-point with Mikels as the lone setter for the White team. Savannah Davison and Cat Kelly came up big from the outside recording clutch kills down the stretch, helping their team to a straight-set victory.
The 2019 NM State squad returns 18 players from last season with six new faces in the mix. Hart, Salanoa and Davison earned Western Athletic Conference preseason honors while the Aggie team were named the preseason favorites by the league's head coaches.
