LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Fresh off of a second-place finish to open the season, the NM State women's golf team is back in action at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 15, and Monday, Sept. 16, at Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan.
 
11 teams, including the Aggies, will compete in the event, which is hosted by Kansas State. The first and second rounds of the two-day, 54-hole tournament will both occur Sunday, with the field teeing off at 7:30 a.m. (MT). Monday's final round begins with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. (MT).
 
THE FIELD
Host institution Kansas State welcomes in NM State along with Central Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Kansas, Kansas City, North Texas, Rutgers, Texas-Arlington, Texas State and Tulsa.
 
Kansas State is the tournament's reigning champion, claiming both the team and individual titles when the event was last played in 2017. The Wildcats fired a team score of 17-over-par 881 en route to victory.
 
NM State most recently participated in the 2013 edition of the tournament. The Aggies finished in eighth place with a team score of 111-over-par 975.
 
THE AGGIES
NM State opened its season in impressive fashion with a runner-up finish at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic. The Aggies fired a 27-over-par 879 as team, coming in second by one shot behind tournament champion Cal State Fullerton (878, +26).
 
Senior Pun Chanachai tied for fourth as an individual with an overall score of three-over-par 216 to lead the way for NM State. Fellow senior Dominique Galloway (219, +6) and sophomore Amelia McKee (222, +9) also earned top-20 individual finishes.
 
The Aggies' lineup this weekend includes sophomore Chantal Dueringer and freshman Alison Gastelum in addition to Chanachai, Galloway and McKee.
