LOS ANGELES – The New Mexico State diving duo of
Lily Ellis and
Italia Aranzabal wrapped up day one at the UCLA Diving Invitational. The two competed in the 1m board.
Â
"Today's meet was a great look at what our conference meet and zone meet will be like," said diving coach
Miranda King. "There were divers from every level including former NCAA qualifiers. It was a long competition that was trying both mentally and physically. Overall, the girls dove well even though the scores may be a little lower. At a meet like this, the whole range of scoring is used to make sure there is accuracy among all divers. The girls have been training hard this winter and are exhausted but they hung tough today. We are looking forward to the 3m tomorrow with some hopefully warmer weather."
Â
There were 55 divers entered in the 1m event including the two Aggies. Aranzabal checked in at 43
rd (196.30) while Ellis placed 49
th (173.30).
Â
The NM State divers are back in action tomorrow starting at 11:30 a.m. (MT) as they compete the 3m board. Fans can follow along thanks to
