LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State football offensive lineman
Max Wilhite has been named to the 2020 Rimington Trophy Watch List.
The Rimington Trophy, named after two-time Nebraska consensus All-American Dave Rimington, is presented to the most outstanding center in the FBS. Wilhite is one of 90 college football student-athletes on the watch list, which was released on Wednesday, Oct. 14, by the Rimington Trophy Committee.
As a redshirt freshman, Wilhite started all 12 games at center for the Aggies in 2019. The native of Goodyear, Ariz., blocked for a unit that surpassed 300 yards of total offense nine times and rushed for 200-plus yards on three occasions during the campaign.
Wilhite's efforts up front helped bolster NM State's offensive attack, which averaged 217.6 passing yards per game and 143.5 rushing yards per game in 2019.
This year's award winner will be recognized during the Rimington Trophy Presentation. Because of COVID-19 and the ever-changing guidelines of in-person events, details of the annual presentation will be announced when confirmed.Â
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy, which has been awarded annually since 2000, has raised over $4.2 million in the fight against cystic fibrosis. The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for the disorder.
