NM State Adds Tarleton State to Revised Football Schedule

| By:

The Aggies will host the Texans on Feb. 20, 2021, at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - New Mexico State football is coming back this spring.

The Aggies added FCS foe Tarleton State to their revised football schedule on Friday, signifying a major step towards returning to competition on the gridiron in the spring of 2021. The two programs will meet for the first time when they clash on Feb. 20 inside Aggie Memorial Stadium.

NM State previously announced the postponement of the 2020 football season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the Aggies have continued to monitor the college football landscape at a regional and national level with the intentions of playing in the spring of 2021.

Tarleton State, led by head coach Todd Whitten, went 11-1, including an 8-0 mark in conference play, in 2019 - its last season as a member of the Lone Star Conference (DII). The Texans made the move up to the FCS ahead of the 2020 NCAA DI FCS football season, which was also postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and will compete as an independent this upcoming spring.
