2020-21 NM State Men's Basketball Schedule (WAC games only)
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - With 30 days remaining until the hopeful tip-off of its 2020-21 season, the NM State men's basketball team got a look at what its Western Athletic Conference (WAC) slate will look like for the upcoming campaign.
In an announcement made Monday afternoon, the WAC unveiled its conference schedule for the 2020-21 season - a slate which features a familiar 16-game league schedule but a different format. The WAC's 2020-21 schedule features back-to-back games against the same opponent at the same site.
The Aggies' quest to become the fourth program in the history of the WAC to win four consecutive regular season titles begins Friday, Jan. 8, 2021, when they will be the first NCAA Division I league opponent for Dixie State in St. George, Utah. The Aggies and Trailblazers will wrap up their season series two days later (Saturday, Jan. 9) inside Burns Arena.
NM State's first WAC home series of 2021 comes after a bye week and sees the Aggies host UTRGV inside the Pan Am Center on Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23. The alternating home and away series continue the following week when NM State takes a trip to Phoenix, Ariz., for an important two-game swing at Grand Canyon (Friday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Jan. 30).
A rematch of the league's top two teams from 2019-20 is set to occur inside the Pan Am Center during the opening week of February when the Aggies host California Baptist twice over a three-day span (Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6).
The penultimate WAC road trip of the regular season awaits NM State the following week when it takes a trip to the Pacific Northwest for a pair of games against Seattle U inside Redhawk Arena (Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13). From there, the Aggies return to the Pan Am Center for a pair of tilts with Utah Valley (Friday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 20).
NM State's last WAC road trip of the regular season sends the Aggies to Stephenville, Texas, where they will tangle with league newbie Tarleton State on two occasions (Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27). The meetings between the two clubs will be the first in 57 years as NM State and Tarleton State have met just one time before - on December 7, 1964.
Before heading to the WAC Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., NM State makes its final appearance in the Pan Am Center during the 2020-21 campaign when the Aggies close out their regular season WAC slate with two games against Chicago State on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6.
Following their showdowns with the Cougars, the Aggies will be at the WAC Tournament from Thursday, March 11 through Saturday, March 13, where they hope to claim their fourth NCAA Tournament bid in the last five seasons.
