Doxtater Draws Praise as Top-10 CFL Draft Prospect

| By:

Aggie offensive lineman Sage Doxtater is one of the top Canadian prospects in the upcoming 2021 CFL Draft.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - One of the top Canadian Football League draft prospects is an Aggie.

New Mexico State redshirt senior offensive lineman Sage Doxtater checked in at No. 6 on the CFL Scouting Bureau's first edition of the top-20 prospects eligible for the 2021 CFL Draft. The list was released on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The CFL Scouting Bureau, comprised of CFL scouts, as well as player personnel directors and general managers from the league's nine clubs, releases its rankings three times each year: in the fall, winter and spring.

Doxtater, a three-year starter for the Aggies, is fully recovered after battling a nagging injury one year ago. He played in only four games with three starts after missing the first half of last season due to the injury.

The Welland, Ontario, native made an immediate impact in his first game action of last year. NM State generated a season-best 611 total yards of offense in the win over UIW, rushing for 295 yards and throwing for 316 yards behind his blocking.

Doxtater is no stranger to fanfare as he landed on Phil Steele's Preseason All-Independent Team and was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list entering the 2020 campaign. The Wuerffel Trophy honors college football players who serve others, celebrate their positive impact on society and inspire greater service in the world.

Regarded as the CFL's top offensive line draft prospect in last year's rankings before his injury, Doxtater could become the first NM State football student-athlete selected in the league's draft since former Aggie offensive lineman Trevor Kine was taken by the now-defunct Ottawa Renegades in the second round (13th overall) of the 2003 draft.

Former NM State offensive lineman George Hudson (2000), defensive back Earl Knight (1991) and defensive back Jeff MacDonald (1988) have also heard their names called in the CFL draft's history.
