Aggies Add Dynamic Duo

NM State women's golf inked two during the national signing period.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's golf team added two standouts during the National Letter of Intent signing period, head coach Danny Bowen announced on Monday.

Karen Miyamoto, a graduate transfer from the University of Washington, will join the Aggies this spring. Panissara (Meiji) Tungprapunvong, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, will arrive at NM State as a freshman in the fall.

2019-20 (Senior at Washington)
Played in eight events, finishing second on the Huskies in scoring average (74.56) ... Claimed her first career individual tournament title, posted two top-10 finishes and carded three rounds under par during the campaign ... Opened the season with a bang, bringing home the individual title at the season-opening WSU Cougar Cup with a career-best nine-under 207 ... Her scorecard featured rounds of three-under 69, two-under 70 and four-under 68 ... Followed up that performance with another top-10 finish, tying for ninth at the Molly Collegiate Invitational with a team-best six-over-222 ... Tied for 12th at the Cardinal Cup with a two-over 218 ... Finished second in the Husky lineup at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, tying for 36th at eight-over 221 ... Earned her fourth top-20 finish to close out the year, posting a seven-over 223 to tie for 18th at the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Collegiate. 

2018-19 (Junior at Washington)
Competed in seven events for Huskies, posting a scoring average of 75.33 ... Logged two rounds under par during the campaign ... Started the season with her best showing of the year, tying for 14th at four-over 220 at the Nitanny Lion Invitational ... Matched her season-best score at the Mountain View Intercollegiate with a four-over 220 to finish in a tie for 39th ... Closed the year strong at the Silverdown Showdown, tying for 29th to at nine-over 225.

2017-18 (Sophomore at Washington)
Earned two top-10 finishes on the year, posting four rounds under par with a stroke average of 75.08 in 13 events  ... Recorded her first sub-70 round of the year in her first event of the season as she tied for 16th at the Schooner Fall Classic with a one-under 212 ... Tied for third at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invite, leading the Huskies with an even-par 216 ... Tied for 11th with a 12-over 228 at the Bruin Wave Invitational ... Matched her best finish of the season at the Meadow Club Collegiate, tying for third with a two-under 142 in the weather-shortened event ... Tied for 56th at the NCAA National Championships, coming in at 15-over 303.

2016-17 (Freshman at Washington)
Posted three top-15 finishes in eight events ... Tied for 10th to lead UW at the All-State Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate with a one-over 217 ... Tied for 15th at the Bruin Wave Invitational with a 12-over 231 ...  Carded her highest finish of the season at the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational, tying for fifth with a one-over 217 to lead the Huskies ... Tied for 39th at the PING/ASU Invitational after shooting a seven-over 223 ... Tied for 44th at the Pac-12 Championships, coming in at 18-over 234  ... Finished tied for 62nd at the NCAA Albuquerque Regional with a 14-over 230.

Bowen on Miyamoto: "We're extremely excited to bring Karen in for the spring semester. She's going to help our lineup tremendously with her experience as a former Pac-12 standout. To go along with her consistent play, I really believe she'll be able to provide senior leadership for us on the road during our tough schedule. She's a great teammate who is confident and responsible. We can't wait to have her join our team!"

Bowen on Tungprapunvong: "We're very pleased with the signing of Meiji. She's been committed for over a year now, and we feel she's going to provide an immediate impact to our roster next fall. Meiji has an infectious personality, is quite humble and is definitely going to bring a hard-working mentality to the team. I see her fitting in well with our group and, best of all, she's exceptionally coachable. We can't wait for her to be on campus!"
