LAS CRUCES, N.M. -
Cedric Wilcots II is headed to the Canadian Football League.
The former New Mexico State football standout has signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, becoming the latest Aggie to join the pro ranks. Wilcots II, who wrapped up his NM State career with the fourth-most sacks (19.5) in program history, was added to the team's active roster on Wednesday.
Wilcots II recorded 109 career total tackles, including 29.5 for loss, on the defensive line. He racked up a team-leading and career-high 8.5 sacks as a sophomore in 2017, spurring the Aggies to their first bowl game in 57 years.
The Dallas, Texas, native was named to the Phil Steele All-Independent First Team in 2019 as a senior, starting all 12 games with 26 total tackles on the year, including 5.5 for loss. He tied for the team lead in sacks with 3.0.
Wilcots II is now one of four former Aggies currently playing professional football. Running back
Jason Huntley (Philadelphia Eagles), defensive back Winston Rose (Cincinnati Bengals) and wide receiver
Jaleel Scott (New York Jets) are
in the NFL.
Former Aggie Buck Pierce, meanwhile, is currently the Blue Bombers' quarterbacks coach. The quarterback threw for 30 touchdowns and rushed for 14 more during his four-year NM State career (2001-04).
