Freshmen Phenoms
A number of freshmen made their debut in the Crimson and White at the Troy Cox Classic.
Matalasi Faapito burst onto the scene with a .727/750/1.909 slash line in her first weekend of softball. She recorded eight hits in 11 at-bats with eight RBI and four home runs. She also hit two homeruns against Bradley and struck out five in the circle against nationally-ranked Arkansas.

Ramsay Lopez also flexed a big bat, slashing .500/1.333/.600. The Albuquerque, N.M., native added three home runs, hitting two against Bradley on Feb. 7.
Gabby Aragon, another New Mexico native from Carlsbad, went 4-8 at the plate over the weekend in four starts with a double off Arkansas' Autumn Storms.

Scouting the Mavericks
Omaha opened the season at the Rambler Rumble in Rosemont, Ill. The Mavericks went 3-2 at the Rambler Rumble, picking up wins over IUPUI, Green Bay and Miami (OH).

As a squad, Omaha has a .300 batting averaging and is reaching base at a .378 clip. However, Sydney Hampton has impressed in the circle so far. In three appearances for the Mavericks, the junior holds a 0.44 ERA with 16 innings pitched. She has given up just one earned run and has struck out 10 batters.
