SEAL BEACH, Calif. - Four NM State women's golfers posted top-25 finishes - including Alison Gastelum who shot a plus-one 73 in the final round to come in 15th - as the Aggies concluded their two-day run at The Gold Rush Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
After concluding day on in a tie for 21st place, Gastelum rose six spots through the last 18 holes of the event. Her performance helped the Aggies finish eighth among the 15-team field with a final team card of 39-over 903. In a tightly contested field, just eight strokes separated the teams who finished in third through eighth place.
The best round of the day by an Aggie went to Pun Chanachai who penciled in an even 72 through the her last 18 holes. That helped her improve 15 spots on the final leaderboard to finish in a tie for 24th place with teammates Alex Quihuis who came up with a 4-over 76 in the last round.
Dominuque Galloway ended her two-day run by shooting a 3-over 75 in the third round to finish in a tie for 21st. Amelia McKee enjoyed a three-spot improvement by coming up with a 5-over 77 Tuesday to post a 43rd-place finish.
Thirty-eighth ranked Georgia shot a one-under 863 as a team to capture the team title by 23 strokes. For the Bulldogs, Celeste Dao (7-under 209) finished one stroke ahead of teammates Caterina Don (6-under 210) to lay claim to the individual title. Fresno State's Harriet Lynch (2-under 214) rounded out the top three individual finishers at the event and helper her team claim a runner-up finish.
Long Beach State (31-over 895), 27th-ranked Charlotte (34-over 898) and BYU (34-over 898) rounded out the group of top-five teams.
Up next for the Aggies is a trip to McAllen, Texas, where they will take part in the UTRGV Invitational. The two-day event is set to begin Monday (March 2) with the final round set for Tuesday (March 3) at the McAllen Country Club.
