HOUSTON – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team finished in fourth place at WAC Championships in Houston over the weekend. Northern Arizona won its seventh-straight WAC Championship.
Â
"We battled hard today and unfortunately the scores and end place do not represent the quality of our team and the progress we've made as a program," said head coach
Rick Pratt. "It was unfortunate to finish the day with a record-smashing relay being disqualified, but that is a young group of sprinters who will have another shot in the future. We battled injuries and illness all season and I'm proud of the team for the way they handled adversity along the way and especially with the format changes during this meet. We had a very high percentage of lifetime best swims and our culture is strong. This season will only motivate us to work harder, the elements are there to have a championship team in the near future."Â
Â
Neza Kocijan had another good day in the pool, this time finishing third in the 100 Free with a time of 49.98 seconds.
Â
On the first day of WAC Championships, Kocijan,
Ashley Reynolds,
Reagan Nentwich and
Maude Boily-Dufour set a school record and won the 200 Medley Relay WAC Championship with a time of  1:39.94.
Â
On day three, Kocijan,
