LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A good week just got better.
NM State women's golf sophomore
Amelia McKee has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Golfer of the Week after winning the UTRGV Invitational by six strokes with a 4-under-par 212.
The Spring, Texas, native fired a one-over 73 in the first round before shooting a two-under 70 and three-under 69 in the second and final round, respectively, to win the individual title. She was the only competitor in the field to finish the tournament with an under-par overall score.
Behind her strong performance, NM State took home the team title by 10Â strokes with a 21-over 885. It is the third event win for the Aggies this season, also claiming team victories at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and Aggie Invitational earlier this campaign.
McKee, who also won individual title at the Aggie Invitational, is sixth in the conference in scoring average at 74.1 strokes per round this season.
She and her teammates will look to keep the good times rolling next week at the Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. NM State tees off Monday, March 9, and finishes up Tuesday, March 10, at Sewailo Golf Club.
