Â
AY: How are you doing out there in Fort Worth?
Â
CG:Â I'm hanging in there. Spirits are high. I'm doing good.
Â
AY: What's training been like for you? Has it been tough?
Â
CG:Â It's definitely been an adjustment, but I think I've adjusted pretty well. I'm trying to use the time to continue working. I'm getting back to the basics on conditioning and working on my flexibility.Â
Â
AY: I talked to [Ray Buford Jr.] and [Cedric Wilcots II], and they both said it's a lot of bodyweight workouts. Is that the same with you?
Â
CG:Â Yep, I do squats with a case of water or anything I can find laying around the house. I just try to make it work.
Â
AY: You had a really good Pro Day back on March 10 at Aggie Memorial Stadium. It looked like you were in the best shape of your life. Did you feel that way?
Â
CG: Definitely. I put in a rigorous amount of work, and I was eating well throughout the whole process. When the season ended, I never stopped working because I had to immediately go to the Tropical Bowl. In preparation for that and Pro Day, I was working out. Now, I'm just trying to do what I can.
Â
AY: The two areas at your Pro Day that really jumped out at me were the vertical jump and bench press. Which area did you feel like you performed the best?
Â
CG:Â I think everything went well. I think I really did help myself out. My vertical was high, and I had reports of my 40 being around 4.51, which is pretty good for my size. Overall, I was satisfied with everything.
Â
AY: What kind of feedback did you get from NFL personnel following Pro Day.
Â
CG:Â I've been in contact with a few different teams that are interested in me. It really did help out my draft stock. I was one of the guys that really needed it. A lot of guys around the country aren't fortunate to have their Pro Day. Immediately after, I had a few times come up to me and tell me I had a great day and were impressed.
Â
AY: You began your Aggie career as a defensive back and finished as a running back, but you also played a role on special teams. Can that versatility help you at the next level.
Â
CG:Â I believe my versatility is my best ability. The more places I can be on the field will help me make a team. Even if I'm not immediately in the running back rotation, I can work my way in through my special teams ability. I also have good hands, so that makes me very versatile as a running back being able to catch, run the ball and block.
Â
AY: What's been your main focus to improve on and impress the scouts with since the season ended?
Â
CG: My main focus has been showing that I have an understanding of the game. Whenever I'm in the meeting room with my coaches or speaking to them, I want them to feel confident in knowing that I know what I'm doing. I also want to have my body physically ready to perform. It's only half the job to do what to do. You got to go do the other half. I'm studying a lot and focusing a lot on my mentals. I always grew up watching Adrian Peterson and LaDainian Tomlinson, and I'm pretty much going back to that. That's the main thing: do a lot of studying, make sure my conditioning is good and have my body ready for an NFL season.
Â
AY: Did you like what you put on tape, especially at the end of your senior season?
Â
CG:Â I think the end of my senior season was the real turnaround. The first few games were pretty tough, and they were limited carries as well. I feel like we started to become more successful, and [Head Coach
Doug Martin] got more confident in the running game as we went on in the season. That's when my numbers started to pile back up. I started really slow to my standard, and toward the end I was able to pick it back up.
AY: Every NFL personnel will ask you, "What do you bring to the table?" How do you answer that question?
Â
CG:Â What I bring to the table is a strong worth ethic and a determination to get the job done. I'm one of those that's going to fight to the end - win, lose or draw. You'll never see me take any plays off. I think I'm a good in the locker room, and I believe in doing things the right way. Work hard, do things the way you're supposed to do it and not cut any corners. I really stand strong on integrity.
AY: Lastly, how would you sum up your time as an Aggie?
Â
CG: It's been a beautiful journey. It's been a real metaphor of life. To be able to come in, make history by winning the [2017 NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl] and break the longest drought in college football, that was something monumental. Not a lot of people can say that they've done that before. It's been good because it shows that you have to keep working. I was part of the losing streak that was the longest in the country at the time. To follow that up and win a bowl game was very rewarding. It was a great feeling to be part of Aggie Nation, which has been supportive and great to me throughout the years.
