Complete NMBA Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - As he prepares to enter his fifth decade as the radio voice of the Aggies, legendary broadcaster Jack Nixon continues to haul in the awards.

The New Mexico Broadcasters Association unveiled its list of 2020 Excellence in Broadcasting Awards late Monday and Nixon took home a trio of awards for his efforts over the airwaves.

The three Large Market Radio Awards Nixon won included Continuing Coverage, for his work on Migrant Issues in New Mexico through KLVC, Newscaster through KLVC and Sports Show or Interview, for his hosting of AggieCast with KXPZ.

As he prepares to enter his 41st season with Aggie athletics, Nixon has been a constant throughout the years for Aggie fans and has had the call on various memorable moments in NM State history. Including, but not limited to, the last-second shot by Keith Hill in the Pan American Center to topple then-No. 7 UNLV led by Jerry Tarkanian, football's comeback against South Alabama at home to clinch bowl eligibility as well as NM State's first bowl appearance and win in 57 years at the 2017 NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl. Last season, Nixon was on the call when Las Cruces native Johnny McCants drilled a half-court buzzer-beater to beat Grand Canyon at home on Jan. 10, 2019 – a shot that Aggie fans won't soon forget.

In addition, Nixon has been on the call for several NCAA Tournament appearances for men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball and softball.

The Nebraska native recently received the Mayor's Distinguished Service Award in 2016 and is a seven-time New Mexico Broadcaster's Association Sportscaster of the Year.

He's also an active member of the Las Cruces community since joining the Aggies. Nixon served as a board member of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) from 2001-03 and is in his ninth year as a volunteer at the Mesilla Valley Hospice. For the last three years, Nixon has also been named the National Sports Media Association Sportscaster of the Year for the state of New Mexico - an award he has won five times in his career.
