Texas Native Brown Joins Aggies Ahead of 2020-21 Season

Junior guard spent time at two junior colleges before coming to Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State men's basketball team's roster continues to grow. 

In an announcement made Friday by head coach Chris Jans, junior guard Darreus Brown has been added to the Aggies' ranks for the 2020-21 season. Brown, a walk-on, spent two seasons at a pair of junior college before making the jump to NCAA Division I basketball.

The high-scoring Brown spent the 2019-20 season playing for Clarendon College in Clarendon, Texas. During his 10 games of action, Brown averaged 8.4 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game while putting up impressive shooting splits of .444/.643/1.000.

Before returning to his home state, Brown signed on at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Mo., where he was one of the Cardinals' best players in 2018-19. Playing in 23 games, Brown averaged 16.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game while shooting .518/.421/.769. In 17 of the 23 games he took part in, Brown amassed 10 or more points and finished with nine efforts of 20 or more points

During his time as a prep player in the state of Texas, Brown pushed Tascosa High School to a 31-1 mark during his junior year. That season, Tascosa moved on to the state regional quarterfinals for the first time in nearly three decades and for his efforts in aiding his team during that run Brown was named the Amarillo Globe-News Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Following that junior season in which he averaged 19.4 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, Brown moved on to attend Pro-Vision Academy in Houston for his final season of prep basketball where he was ranked as the 39th-best overall prospect in the state of Texas by rivals.com
