TYLER, Texas - New Mexico State football wideout Jared Wyatt has been named to the watch list for the 2020 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, which recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football with a connection to the state of Texas.
Wyatt is one of 47 FBS student-athletes included on the watch list, which was announced Wednesday live on The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Facebook page.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.
Wyatt, the Wylie, Texas, native who began his collegiate career at Bowling Green, caught seven passes for 139 yards (19.9 avg.) and a touchdown in his debut season as an Aggie one year ago. He made a season-high two receptions for a campaign-best 42 yards, including a 34-yard touchdown, at Central Michigan (10/12).
Wyatt entered the 2020 campaign as one of NM State's top returning receivers and was expected to help captain the offense before the season's postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is the second preseason award for Wyatt in as many days. The Aggie wide receiver was nominated Tuesday for the prestigious National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy, which is considered by many to be the "Academic Heisman."
