Senior forward will be immediately eligible for Aggies in 2020-21

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - With the start of the 2020-21 college basketball season only a few months away, the NM State men's basketball team got a piece of good news on the waiver front.

This week, the Aggies announced that senior forward Donnie Tillman has been granted a waiver from the NCAA and will be immediately eligible for competition. The product of Detroit, Mich., has one season of eligibility remaining headed into the 2020-21 campaign and signed on with the Aggies this past May after competing for UNLV in 2019-20.

"We are pleased with the great news we received regarding Donnie's immediate eligibility," commented NM State head coach Chris Jans. "Our staff and his teammates are excited to have Donnie on the court this coming season. Donnie has tremendous experience which will bode well for both him and our team all year long."

A pair of institutions - UNLV out of the Mountain West and the Pac-12's Utah - have relied on the services of Tillman through the first three seasons of his college basketball career. After starring at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., as a prep, Tillman signed on with Utah where he played in 58 games through the course of two seasons. Through his tenure in a Ute uniform, Tillman averaged 9.1 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 23.7 minutes per game, helped Utah claim a pair of third-place finishes in Pac-12 play and was named the Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2018-19.

Last season Tillman suited up with UNLV where he played in 25 of the team's 32 contests. The Runnin' Rebels leading free throw shooter last season (88-of-117, 75.2-percent), Tillman averaged 10.1 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists and netted 10 or more points in 13 games.
