@NMStateWBB Opens WAC Play Against GCU

Aggies to take on GCU in rescheduled bouts.

PHOENIX – The New Mexico State women's basketball team opens its Western Athletic Conference season with a pair of games against Grand Canyon on Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. (MT) and Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at GCU Arena.

Conference Quick Facts
-The Aggies are looking for their 6th WAC title in seven years

Scouting the Lopes
GCU is currently 8-1 and is coming off a 106-55 win over Park Gilbert on Jan. 3. Last season, the Aggies and the Lopes split their series with each team picking up a win on its home court.
 
Grand Canyon is led by Katie Scott who has had a breakout freshman season, averaging 20.7 points and 6.4 rebounds to lead GCU in both categories. Ny'Dajah Jackson (11.3) and Taylor Caldwell (10.7) also average double-digit points for Grand Canyon. Jackson is dangerous from deep where she is shooting the ball at a 41.2-percent clip.
 
As a team, the Lopes lead the WAC in offensive output, scoring 84.9 points per game through nine games. However, GCU's defense ranks seventh, giving up 68.2 points per game.
