LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Alison Gastelum is heading to Argentina, as the sophomore qualified and was selected to represent her home country of Mexico at the 2021 Women's Amateur Latin American Event (Nov. 18-21) at the Pilar Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Gastelum joins top amateur and college golfers from Arkansas, North Carolina State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and UTSA.

"We're very proud of Alison for being invited to represent Team Mexico in the Women's Amateur Latin America," NM State women's golf head coach Danny Bowen said.

"Alison has showed a tremendous amount of growth in her game, and this invitation shows her that she is truly one of the best players from Mexico at the moment! There are only a handful of players selected from each country, so this a very prestigious honor. We look for Alison to play well as she not only represents her country, but also NM State, as she competes for an international championship," Bowen added.

A native of Chihuahua, Mexico, Gastelum, just completed the strongest fall season of her young career. Competing in all four events for the Aggies this fall, the sophomore fired two top-20 finishes, had four rounds of even-par golf or better and averaged 73.5 strokes per round.

Players will arrive in Argentina on Nov. 15, with the first practice round scheduled for the next day (Nov. 16). After the second and final practice round on the 17th, the competition begins with the opening round on Nov. 18. The event continues with the second (Nov. 19), third (Nov. 20) and fourth (Nov. 21) rounds. The event is 72-holes in length and will feature 60 of the best Latin American amateur female players in the world.

The winner of the tournament will receive an invitation to compete at the 2022 AIG Women's British Open, The Women's Amateur Championship and the Annika Invitational USA Presented by Rolex.

In addition to the top finisher receiving the aforementioned exemptions, the top-three finishers will also receive an invitation to the South American Amateur Championship as well as an invitation to next year's Women's Amateur Latin America.

Gastelum and the Aggies return to action Feb. 28-Mar. 1 for the Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State University.
