LAS CRUCES, N.M. - With a new head coach leading the way, the NM State women's track & field teams knows exactly when and where its 2022 competitions will take place.
Thursday afternoon, head coach Joseph Rath announced the 2022 indoor and outdoor track & field schedules for NM State's women's track & field team.
With the exception of the 2022 NCAA Division I Women's Indoor Track & Field National Championship meet, all of the Aggies' indoor meets in 2022 will take place in either New Mexico or Texas. In order to begin their first indoor track & field season since the historic 2020 campaign, the Aggies will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to compete in the Corky Classic hosted by Texas Tech on Friday-Saturday, Jan. 14-15.
Three additional indoor meets - all of which send the Aggies to Albuquerque, N.M. - follow the team's indoor track & field opener. NM State is set to participate in the MLK Collegiate Invite hosted by New Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 22, before returning to The Duke City for the New Mexico Team Open on Saturday, Jan. 29.
NM State's final indoor meet prior to the WAC Championships is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, Feb. 4-5, at the New Mexico Classic in Albuquerque. Two weeks after their final regular-season indoor meet of 2022, the Aggies return to Albuquerque to compete in the WAC Indoor Track & Field Championships which are set for Friday-Saturday, Feb. 18-19. If any Aggies make the cut for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, they'll head to Birmingham, Ala., for the national meet on Friday-Saturday, March 11-12.
One week after the indoor championships take place, NM State begins its outdoor track & field season. Tucson, Ariz., serves as the site of the Aggies' first meet as they will convene at the University of Arizona to compete in the Willie Williams Classic on Friday-Saturday, March 18-19.
The following week, NM State travels to San Diego, Calif., where the Aggies are set to compete in the Aztec Invitational (Thursday-Saturday, March 24-26) at San Diego State. A one-day meet - the New Mexico Spring Invite - is set for Thursday, April 7, before the team makes a journey to Los Angeles, Calif., from Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16. NM State will have student-athletes competing at Azusa Pacific, Long Beach State and the Mt. Sac Relays that weekend.
NM State's last two regular-season outdoor meets are scheduled for the final two weeks of April. A two-day run at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational (Thursday-Friday, April 21-22) in Albuquerque precedes a Saturday, April 30 date at Arizona's Desert Heat Classic.
From Thursday-Saturday, May 12-14, the Aggies will be in Seattle, Wash., for the WAC Championships. NM State hopes to send multiple student-athletes to the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark., from Wednesday-Saturday, May 25-28, as well as the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., from Wednesday-Saturday, June 8-11.
