NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Central
LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Sage Doxtater will be slipping on an NM State football helmet for one last game.
Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, Doxtater will take the field at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., to take part in the 2022 National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) Collegiate Bowl.
Described as the premier postseason all-star game for draft-eligible collegiate football players, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is in its 10th year of existence. First played in 2012 in part to prepare draft-eligible college football players for a career in the NFL, the game will be televised on the NFL Network at a time to be announced.
A 2021 Phil Steele All-Independent First Team choice as well as a fixture on the Aggies' offensive line for a half-decade, Doxtater closed out his NM State career this season having played in 51 games as an Aggie - the most by any player in the history of the program. Since the start of the 2016 season, Doxtater helped anchor the Aggies' offensive line and made 48 starting lineup appearances.
One of the premier Canadian Football League draft prospects on the board, Doxtater, who hails from London, Ontario, Canada, was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts with the 12th pick in the second round of the 2021 CFL Draft in May of 2021. He exercised his option to return to NM State for the 2021 season.
Doxtater is the first NM State player to suit up in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl since Ray Buford Jr., and Jason Huntley did so in 2019. Huntley excelled on the offensive side of the ball in that game, rushing for a game-high 53 yards as well as a touchdown to help the National team claim a 30-20 triumph over the American side. Buford Jr., patrolled the defensive backfield for the American team and generated one tackle.
