SOMIS, Calif. – Sophomore
Alison Gastelum came out of the gates strong and is tied for eighth place after the first round of the Bruin Wave Invitational at Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif. The Aggies currently sit in sixth place out of 15 teams.

The Chihuahua, Mexico, native sits at four-over-par 76 with two birdies following round one action. Oregon's Bianca Chacon is first on the individual leaderboard after shooting an even-par 72.

"Alison continued her solid play for us and really limited her mistakes today," said head coach
Danny Bowen.

Pun Chanachai and
Amelia McKee both shot eight-over-par 80 and are tied for 28
th place while
Alex Quihuis, competing as an individual, and
Karen Miyamoto are in a tie for 38
th after shooting nine-over-par 81.
Arantza Armas Stenner rounds out the Aggie squad tied for 71
st after posting a 26-over-par 88.

On the team leaderboard, NM State sits in sixth after shooting 29-over-par 317.

"I'm very proud of the way we hung in there today," Bowen added. "The golf course was playing extremely tough for everyone so we're in a good position heading into tomorrow. We'll have to make some adjustments, especially approaching greens, to put ourselves in a better position to score."
