Villareal's Big Day Helps Aggies Hammer Dixie State, 17-3

Outfielder drives in six, launches second grand slam of the season

LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Playing at home - and in front of a strong contingent of Aggie faithful - for the first time in a little over a year, the NM State baseball team really gave its home contingent something to cheer about.

Cal Villareal blasted a grand slam in the second innings, the Aggies scored 12 runs in the home half of the fourth and the fans in attendance at Presley Askew Field were treated to a seven-inning 17-3 NM State romp over Dixie State in the WAC opener for both teams.

SCORING SUMMARY
B2 | Villareal bid a good afternoon to the first Aggie faithful to see a game in Las Cruces in a little over one year by launching his second grand slam of the season over the fence in right field. Staked to their early 4-0 lead, the Aggies poured it on from there.
T4 | Things took a turn for the dramatic when Dixie State showed off some power at the plate of its own. Tyson Fisher tagged Aggie starter Chris Barraza for a two-run shot before Lane Pritchard stepped to the place and hammered a solo homer of his own. Thought the home team's lead was cut to one, 4-3, the Aggies didn't waste any time in pushing their advantage to an insurmountable margin.
B4 | Sending 16 men to the plate, NM State hung a 12-spot on the board and forced the Trailblazers to use four pitchers before escaping the frame. Zerek Saenz and Brandon Dieter each delivered a pair of hits and two RBI apiece in the fourth while Ethan Mann wrapped up the 12-run frame with a two-run double. By the time the dust had settled, the Aggies' lead stood at 16-3.
B6 | Dieter delivered the game's final run, pushing Saenz home with an RBI single to account for the 17-3 final score.
