TUCSON, Ariz. -
Yemisi Oroyinyin led the Aggies with two top-five performances in the hammer throw and the shot put on the first day of the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson, Ariz., on Friday.
Oroyinyin got the Aggies going with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.60m.
Emily Hernandez also had a solid performance in the hammer throw, as she placed sixth with a personal-best throw of 51.01m.
Oroyinyin finished her day in the shot put with a runner-up finish. Oroyinyin had a toss of 14.16m which was just short of Arizona thrower Megan Dulaney's toss of 14.41m.
Rebecca Green (13.12m) and
Sam Ponds (13.00m) finished sixth and seventh respectively.
Valissa Brown finished ninth in the long jump (5.45m) in her first meet as an Aggie.
Dascha Robinson finished right behind her in 10th with a jump of 5.43m.
On the track,
Israel Swanson had a solid performance in the 400m hurdles finishing third with a time of 1:04.53.
Lanie Whelpley was just shy of her 25.19 personal-best in the 200m dash, as she finished fifth with a time of 25.29.
Corinne Hanson led the Aggies in the final event of the day, the 1500m run, with a time of 4:43.66.
In the Dave Murray Distance Carnival, Anekin Hetman and Kayn Quinones each ran times of 4:10.33 and 4:25.78 in the 1500m run. In the 5000m run, Pedro Espinoza led the way with a sixth-place finish with a time of 16:03.42.
The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow with field events beginning at 12:30 p.m. and running events starting at 1:05 p.m.
