31st-Ranked Sun Devils Too Much for Aggies in 7-0 Loss

NM State's two-match winning streak ends

TEMPE - The NM State women's tennis team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end Wednesday afternoon as the Aggies fell 7-0 to 31st-ranked Arizona State at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

DOUBLES
• NM State found it tough to get anything going in tandem play against Arizona State. Chloe Gavino and Bella Nguyen suffered a 6-0 shutout loss to Sammi Hampton and Marianna Argyrokastriti to put the host team just one win away from clinching the doubles point.
• On line three, Miranda Bishard and Lucija Josipovic fell 6-2 in their battle with Tereza Kolarova and Domenika Turkovic to put the Aggies at a 1-0 disadvantage.
• At the time the doubles play was halted, Harsha Challa and Gavi Kalaga found themselves trailing 5-3 to the Sun Devils' top-flight duo of Izle Hattingh and Lauryn John-Baptiste.

SINGLES
• The Sun Devils quickly increased their lead to 2-0 thanks to a win by default on line six.
• NM State won just 11 total games in singles action and Arizona State moved a point away from victory after Nguyen was shut out 6-0, 6-0 against Cali Jankowski on line five.
• Gavino battled it out with Hampton in second-flight action, but was on the wrong end of a 6-0, 6-2 result at the end of the day.
• Bishard took three games from John-Baptiste in a 6-1, 6-2 defeat while Kalaga, the reigning WAC Single Player of the Week, took a 6-2, 6-2 loss against Domenika Turkovic on line
four.
• In top-flight play, Challa was outpaced by Hattingh by a score of 6-0, 6-2.

COMING UP NEXT
• Two more matches with Pac-12 opposition are up next for the Aggies. Monday and Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. each day, NM State battles Arizona from the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.
