DENVER – Freshman libero
Darian Markham picked up the first Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor of her career, the league announced on Wednesday morning.
Â
Markham put on a defensive clinic in a pair of Aggie wins at Chicago State where she averaged 5.14 digs per set and finished with 36 total digs. The McKinney, Texas, native posted a career-high 19 digs in a 3-1 NM State win on March 22 and followed that up with 17 digs in an Aggie sweep on March 23. The freshman has started all 16 matches at libero for NM State this season.
Â
After finishing the season with a 15-1 record and as WAC Regular Season Champions, the Aggies now head to Orem, Utah, to defend their WAC Tournament Championship. NM State's quest for a third-straight NCAA Tournament berth begins on Friday, April 2, at 5 p.m. (MT) with a semifinal matchup against the winner of the UT Rio Grande Valley/Chicago State quarterfinal.
