LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Next stop? Arizona.

After opening its 2021 season in the state of California, the NM State women's golf team travels to Tucson, Ariz., and will be one of 16 teams competing in the two-day Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the Sewailo Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.

The par-72, 6,627-yard course is one the Aggies navigated well one season ago. In their final tournament before the COVID-19 pandemic put an end to all NCAA sports, NM State posted a runner-up finish in the 11-team tournament last year led by Alex Quihuis' sixth-place finish. Quihuis shot a 72-71-71=214 (-2) to lead her team.

"We're excited for this week in Tucson," said NM State head coach Danny Bowen." It feels good to be back on a course that we've seen before and have good memories with. I thought our practice round went well today, and the girls are well rested and ready to go tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing us put ourselves in good scoring positions and converting those chances."

NM State joins Arizona, Colorado, Denver, Iowa, Iowa State, Long Beach State, Northern Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Texas, UNLV and USC as the competing teams in the two-day invitational.

Last week the Aggies generated a top-ten finish at the 15-team Bruin Wave Invitational in Clovis, Calif. NM State posted a 10th-place finish led by the play of Alison Gastelum who carded a 76-75-80=213 (+8) over the three-day invitational. Gastelum's score was good for a ninth-place finish.

Pun Chanachai (80-77-80=237 (+21)) became the program's career leader in birdies at the invitational and finished in a tie for 19th-place.

NM State will send Chanachai, Gastelum, Amelia McKee, Karen Miyamoto and Quihius to the links. Gastelum's day will begin on hole 14, Chanachai and Miyamoto are set to start on hole 15 while McKee and Quihius start their run in the invitational on hole 16. NM State is scheduled to tee off at 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.
