OREM, Utah – The New Mexico State volleyball team fell 26-24, 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 16-18, at Utah Valley on Monday night in a Western Athletic Conference match.
Congrats to UVU," said head coach
Mike Jordan." We had a lot of chances but unfortunately we made a ton of errors both physical and mental. Hopefully we learn from the mistakes we made and do a better job tomorrow."
The Aggies (10-1, 10-1 WAC) and Wolverines (9-3, 9-2 WAC) traded points to start the first set with UVU pulling ahead 11-7 early in the set. However, a 5-0 Aggie run put them back in front 12-11 before UVU took a 24-22 lead late in the set. Then,
Savannah Davison sparked a 4-0 Aggie run to end the set 26-24 in favor of the Aggies.
Â
Much like the first set, UVU was able to take an early, 9-7, in the second set before an Aggie run gave them a 15-11 lead. NM State eventually built its lead to 23-17 before closing out the set for the 25-20 final.
Â
However, the Aggies struggled to close out the Wolverines who won the next three sets for the five-set victory.
Â
NM State's high-powered offense struggled, hitting just .169 on the day with 38 errors while holding UVU to .156 hitting. Davison hit 13 kills with Lipscomb, Barrett and Birtcil each adding 12.
Â
The Aggies are back in action tomorrow, March 8, at 12 p.m. (MT) with a rematch against Utah Valley at Lockhart Arena. Fans can stream all the action live on the WAC Digital Network.
