ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico State women's golf team wrapped up its regular season with a sixth-place finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational on Monday at UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque.
Â
"Even though we dropped a few spots today, there are plenty of positives to take with us to WAC," said head coach
Danny Bowen. "Today's conditions were tough and we made just a few too many bogeys to keep pace with the leaders. To finish where we did, and know we left a lot out there, gives us confidence for next week. Amelia finishing top-15 was good for her, overcoming a shaky start and making four birdies."
Â
After a shaky start to the round,
Amelia McKee carded four birdies and finished tied for 13
th with a two-over-par 218 for the tournament. Sophomore
Alex Quihuis also finished in the top-25 for the Aggies as she shot 220 (+2) in Albuquerque to finish tied for 23
rd.
Â
NM State finished the Branch/McGuire Invitational in sixth place shooting 878 over three rounds at UNM Championship Golf Course. The Aggies finished one stroke ahead 22
nd-ranked Arizona.
Â
The Aggies are now set to defend their WAC Championship from April 19-21 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. NM State is looking to make its 23
rd trip to an NCAA Regional.
