@NMStateWGolf Looks to Defend WAC Crown

Aggies look for 10th WAC title in Nevada.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State women's golf team is set to defend its 2019 Western Athletic Conference Championship at Boulder City Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev., from April 19-21. The Aggies won the last WAC Championship in 2019, there was no WAC Championship in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Excited to get to Las Vegas with the team," said head coach Danny Bowen. Boulder Creek is going to be a fun course to play for our championship. What I am really looking forward to is seeing our girls having fun, playing loose and for each other. The last couple of weeks we've really excelled in those areas."

NM State has dominated the WAC in recent years, capturing five of the last six WAC Championships including a playoff win over Seattle U in 2019. The Aggies have won nine WAC Championships, a conference best.

The Aggies' lineup for the WAC Championship consists of Amelia McKee, Pun Chanachai, Alex Quihuis, Alison Gastelum and Karen Miyamoto with Arantza Armas Stenner as an emergency substitution. Chanachai is no stranger to the stage, as she captured a WAC individual title in 2017 and placed second in 2018.

"I also think if we can do a good job controlling our emotions and take advantage of scoring opportunities, we'll put ourselves in a great position to have a chance to bring the title home," Bowen added.

Match play is set to begin on Monday, April 19, with tee times beginning at 9:45 a.m. (MT) with the second round to follow on April 20, with tee times starting at 9 a.m. The final round tees off on Wednesday, April 21, with the final round getting underway at 9 a.m. Fans can keep up with all the action live thanks to live scoring from GolfStat.
