BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The New Mexico State women's golf team sit in first place after the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship at Boulder City Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. The Aggies were red-hot on the day shooting a one-under-par 287.
"Solid round today from the girls," said head coach
Danny Bowen. "We accomplished one of our goals, which was to get off to a good start. We hit the ball really well today and took advantage of our length, scoring well on the par 5's. Excited to play well tomorrow and put ourselves into a good position heading into the final round."
Amelia McKee came out of the gates strong, sinking birdies on two and five on her way to a two-under-par 70 and currently sits in second place. Teammate
Karen Miyamoto sits one stroke back in a third-place tie after firing a 71 (-1) for the round.
" Proud of Amelia and Karen for leading us today with 7 birdies between the two of them!" Bowen finished.
Alison Gastelum and
Pun Chanachai also find themselves in the top-10 with Gastelum in seventh (E) and Chanachai (+2) tied for 10
th. Fellow Aggie
Alex Quihuis rounds out the squad in a tie for 18
th after carding a 76 (+4).

NM State now readies for the second round of the WAC Championship, tomorrow, April 20, with the Aggies' teeing off at approximately 10:30 a.m. (MT).
