@NMStateWGolf Erases Deficit to Capture 10th WAC Championship

All five Aggies finish in the top-10 as NM State storms back to capture WAC crown.

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The New Mexico State women's golf team captured its 10th Western Athletic Conference Championship after firing an 873 (+9) over three rounds at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. After entering the day trailing GCU by two strokes, the Aggies finished the final round nine shots better than the Lopes to claim the WAC crown.

NM State has now won six of the last seven WAC Championships and its 10 WAC titles are the most in the league.

"Wow! What a finish!" said head coach Danny Bowen. "The wind blew the whole day and the course was playing unbelievably tough. I'm extremely proud of the way the girls handled themselves during the day. They never gave up and fought until they signed the scorecard, our resilience was off the charts. All of the girls' hard work paid off at the right time and I'm just so happy for them."

All five Aggies finished in the top-10, led by Pun Chanachai who fired a two-over-par 218 over three rounds to finish tied for third on the individual leaderboard. Following closely behind Chanachai were Karen Miyamoto (+3) and Alison Gastelum (+4) in sixth and seventh respectively.

Amelia McKee finished her weekend at five-over-par and tied for eighth while Alison Gastelim rounds out the Aggies' squad in a tie for 10th at six-over-par. As a team, NM State finished the final round with a 299 (+11) to capture the WAC championship.

Over the course of the tournament, the Aggies dominated par-four and par-five scoring, leading the field in both categories as they averaged 4.06 strokes on par-fours and 4.80 strokes on par-fives. NM State also led the field with 48 birdies and three eagles.

The Aggies are set to find out where they will travel for the NCAA Regional during the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, April 28, on the Golf Channel.
