LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The NM State track and field team concludes its regular season Saturday at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. The meet will be hosted by the University of Arizona. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with running events beginning at 6:40 p.m.
The Schedule
Field events will begin at 1 p.m. with the discus throw. The triple jump is the last field event scheduled for the women which will begin at 7:30 p.m. The running events will begin at 6:40 p.m. with the 100m hurdles and will end at 10:35 p.m. with the 4x400m relay.Â
Last Time Out
The Aggies had one of its best performances last week at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Three Aggies picked up titles and 24 individuals finished in the top eight of their respective events.
Yemisi Oroyinyin picked up the shot put title with a throw of 15.39m.
Valissa Brown (11.69m) took home gold in her first time competing in the triple jump, and
Mia Regan won the 1500m run with a time of 5:01.24.
The week wasn't finished for the Aggies, as four athletes headed to Phoenix, Ariz., for the Canyon Invitational.
Corinne Hanson had another career day in the 3000m steeplechase. Hanson broke her own school record with a time of 10:37.77. Hanson took over the school record on Mar. 27 when she ran a 10:38.62 at the Aztec Invitational.
The Aggies' next stop is Edinburg, Texas, for the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 13-15.Â
