SACRAMENTO, Calif. - So much for the myth that the NM State baseball team's offense doesn't show up on the road.
Brandon Dieter led the charge in the batters box by driving in four runs, five Aggies finished with multiple hits, freshman left-hander Sammy Natera fanned seven batters in 4 1/3 innings and NM State put an end to a seven-game losing skid by hammering 24th-ranked Sacramento State 10-2 Friday night at John Smith Field.
It marked the worst WAC loss by the Hornets since April 27, 2019. On that date, the Aggies outslugged Sacramento State 12-4 and Friday night's setback was Sacramento State's first loss as a ranked team.
SCORING SUMMARY
T1 | Getting to the Hornets from the get-go, NM State posted two of its 13 hits in the opening frame. It was Ethan Mann's one-out, two-run double down the left field line that put the visitors on top for good.
T2 | Dieter delivered for the first time in NM State's three-run second inning. The Aggies' shortstop punched a two-run single to left, doubling the visitors' 2-0 lead. From there, Cal Villareal finished off the three-run frame by drawing a bases-loaded walk to make matters 5-0.
T3 | Tommy Tabak got involved in the Aggies' hit parade, mashing a one-out RBI double to left. That hit allowed Ronnie Allen Jr. (who led off the inning with a walk) to come around and score, making the score 6-0.
T4 | NM State's lead continued to grow in the fourth as Kevin Jimenez turned a leadoff single into the game's seventh run. After moving to second on a wild pitch, NM State's second baseman scampered to third on a flyout by Mann. That set up Villareal who registered a productive groundout which plated Jimenez and extended the visitors' advantage to 7-0.
T5 | Closing in on their seventh double-digit scoring outing of 2021, NM State relied on Dieter to continue piling it on. Turning on a 2-2 pitch from Sacramento State relief arm Max Pettey, Dieter drove a two-run double which hiked the Aggies' edge to 9-0.
B5 | Sacramento State finally got to Natera in the home half of the fifth. Steven Moretto blasted a 3-1 offering from the left-hander out of the park for a solo homer to lead off the Hornets' set of at-bats.
T6 | Allen Jr., quickly increased the Aggies' lead to nine runs once again when the sixth inning rolled around. After Noah Haupt started the frame with a two-bagger, Allen Jr., brought him home with a double of his own which pushed NM State's lead to 10-1.
B8 | With one out and runners on first and second, NM State reliever Brendon Rodriguez issued consecutive one-out walks. That resulted in the Hornets' second - and final - run of the game.
AT THE DISH
• Six of the Aggies' 13 hits during the back end of the WAC doubleheader came from spots one-through-three in their lineup. Saenz, Dieter and Jimenez each finished with a pair of hits and combined to score four runs.

• Two of the Hornets' seven hits came off the bat of Hunter Dorraguh who also scored one of hits team's two runs.
ON THE HILL
• Though he didn't factor into the decision at the end of the night, Natera kept the Hornets' potent off-balance from the start. The freshman worked his way through 4 1/3 frames of baseball, scattering just two hits and allowing three walks in that span. Seven of the Aggie pitching staff's nine strikeouts came courtesy of Natera.
• Cam Blazek (1-0) locked up his first victory in an NM State uniform by firing 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. The sophomore fanned a pair of Sacramento State batters and allowed just a single run on four hits and one base on balls.
• Eli Saul (1-2) bore the brunt of the Aggies' attack at the plate. The Hornets' starting pitcher gave up six runs on seven hits and six walks as Sacramento State saw its two-game winning streak come to an end.
