TUCSON, Ariz. - The NM State track and field team wrapped up its regular season late Saturday night at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz. Overall, the Aggies had one champion and had nine athletes place in their respective events amidst a challenging field that featured Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma and Oregon.
The Aggies lone champion came in the 3000m steeplechase when
Mia Regan ran a personal-best to capture the title. Regan ran an 11:50.44 which just broke her previous best.
The most impressive mark of the night for the Aggies came from
Dascha Robinson in the triple jump. Robinson jumped a career-best 13.32m which is good enough for the top mark in the WAC and is the 13th-best mark in the NCAA. Robinson finished second in the event.
In the 100m hurdles,
Asjah Wallace just edged past
Valissa Brown for fifth place. Brown's time of 13.85 was her personal-best.
Terice Steen had a solid showing in the 400m hurdles where she finished fourth with a time of 59.53.
Lanie Whelpley continued her solid season in the middle distance races. Whelpley finished fifth in the 400m dash with a time of 55.84.
In the field events,
Yemisi Oroyinyin placed fourth in the shot put (14.77m) and fifth in the hammer throw (56.92).
Andi Harrelson (42.21m) and
Mariah Humphrey (39.85m) finished seventh and eighth in the javelin.
In the relays, the Aggies finished fourth in the 4x400m relay (3:45.68) and fifth in the 4x100m relay (45.57).
The Aggies will look to continue their success in the WAC Championships on May 13-15 at the WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Edinburg, Texas.
