Three Aggies Selected for NCAA Preliminary Track and Field Championships

| By:
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three members of the NM State track and field team will head to College Station, Texas, for the 2021 NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary on May 27-29. Yemisi Oroyinyin (shot put), Terice Steen (400m hurdles) and Dascha Robinson (triple jump) each made the top 48 in their respective events to qualify for the preliminaries. Qualifiers from the west region will head to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship on June 9-12.

Oroyinyin will head to College Station with the top mark in the WAC after posting a personal best mark of 15.82m, earning her the top spot at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last week. This will be the first time Oroyinyin has competed at the NCAA Track and Field West Preliminaries in her career.

Steen also had a great showing last weekend at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships where she took home gold in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.91. Steen holds the 36th-best time in the NCAA with a time of 59.49 which she set at the Masked Rider Open on Apr. 10.

Robinson has been impressive all season in the triple jump and will get the chance to prove it on a national level next week. Robinson sits 11th in the NCAA with a mark of 13.32m which she set at the Desert Heat Classic on May 1. Robinson took home the title in the event last weekend at the WAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Oroyinyin and Steen will both compete on Thursday, May 27. The shot put will begin at 5 p.m. with the preliminaries for the 400m hurdles beginning at 7:20 p.m. Robinson will get things started on Saturday, May 29 in the triple jump which is set to begin at 2:15 p.m. If Steen were to qualify, the 400m hurdle finals will take place at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday.
