Aggies Offensive Lineman Sage Doxtater Drafted by Toronto Argonauts

Despite being drafted, Doxtater will return to the Aggies in 2021

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- NM State Aggies offensive lineman Sage Doxtater was drafted by the Toronto Argonauts with the 12th pick in the second round of Tuesday's Canadian Football League Draft.

Despite being drafted, Doxtater will exercise his fifth-year option to return to the crimson and white for the 2021 season.

"Sage has been remarkable for us," head coach Doug Martin said. "He's been a four-year starter for us and he's gotten better and stronger every year that's he been here. Sage has made a great decision for himself by coming back for the 2021 season. He could have entered either the NFL or CFL Draft after last season. Sage coming back for another year will allow him to be a much higher draft pick."

A 2016 Sun Belt Conference Newcomer team selection, Doxtater has played in 37 games for the Aggies throughout his career, including the 2017 and 2018 seasons where he appeared in all 12 games.

"Sage is going to have every opportunity to play in the NFL," Martin continued. "Depending on what type of year he has this year, I think he can be as high as a second or third round pick in next year's NFL Draft. We think Sage is going to have a phenomenal year this season, and he's in the best shape of his life and focused on what he needs to do."

The Aggies and Martin have announced the complete 2021 schedule. The 12-game slate includes exciting home matchups against rival UTEP (Aug. 28), Hawaii (Sept. 25) and Utah State (Nov. 6), while the Aggies road schedule includes matchups against Alabama (Nov. 13), Kentucky (Nov. 20) and Hawaii (Oct. 23). More information on season ticket renewals will come in the following days.
