ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Led by sophomore
Aidan Thomas who used rounds of 67 and 66 Friday to lead all players, the NM State men's golf program sits at -2 overall after two rounds of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate hosted by the University of New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course.
A native of Albuquerque, Thomas recorded 12 total birdies Friday to sit three shots clear of Sam Choi of UNM. The former WAC Freshman of the Year opened the day with a bogey-free round of 67 to share the lead after the first 18 holes.
In the afternoon, Thomas shrugged off an opening hole bogey (the lone of the day) to fire a round of 66. After recording two birdies in his first six holes, Thomas roared to life on the holes 1-5, recording four total birdies including three straight on holes 3-5. Â
The Aggies overall team score of -2, is good for a tie for third place with the University of San Diego. BYU fired a combined team score of -18 (270) to rise to the top spot on the leader board. The Cougars sit at
-21 overall and lead UNM (-10) by 11 strokes.
Loyola Marymount, Colorado and UNLV are all tied for fifth at +8, while Louisville (+10), Denver (+12) and Nebraska (+14) round out the top-10.
Florida Atlantic (+16) and UTEP (+16) are tied for 11th followed by Santa Clara (+17), North Texas (+23), Louisiana Tech (+25), Wyoming (+27), Dixie State (+29) and VCU.
