VAIL, Colo. -- Led by Amelia McKee, the NM State women's golf program continued action at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic at rainy and chilly Red Sky Golf Club.
 
The Aggies five players finished between 12 and 14 holes of Tuesday's second round before darkness suspended play. NM State sits at +18 overall for the tournament which is tied for 12th overall.
 
Tuesday's action did not finish due to inclement weather that forced multiple delays that eclipsed almost three hours.
 
NM State sits just six shots behind seventh-place Pepperdine (+12) who was one of four programs to finish the second round.
 
Due to Wednesday's weather forecast, the tournament will be shortened to 36 holes. NM State will finish the remaining holes of round two tomorrow at 10,  but the third and final round will be canceled.
 
Starting on the back-nine, McKee got the round off to a flying start on the par-four 14th when she fired an eagle to jump-start a three-under back-nine. Her first nine featured a pair of birdies and the aforementioned eagle and just one bogey. The fast start allowed McKee to finish 27 holes at even-par for the tournament.
 
After birding the par-five 18th hole to make the turn in 33, McKee kept her strong round going, recording back-to birdies on the first and second hole to reach her high-water mark (-2) of the tournament.
 
The Texan did drop a shot at number three but shook off the bogey at the third hole to record a par at the fourth before play was suspended.
 
McKee sits at -1 overall for the tournament, which is good for a tie for 10th. If McKee is able to finish her second round at -4 or better, it would mark the best individual round of Tuesday's action. The former WAC Player of the Year is one of nine players who have shot under par during the second round.  
 
After yesterday's round featured 24 players shooting sub-par rounds, the course played extremely difficult Tuesday.  None of the 35 players who finished the second round recorded a score below par. Lauren Gomez of Pepperdine is in the clubhouse with the best score of the day, an even-par 72.
 
East Tennessee State finished between 12 and 14 holes and holds a one-shot lead heading into the continuation of the second round. With eight total holes remaining, Denver sits in second place at -6 overall.
 
BYU (-2) and Northern Arizona (-1) sit in solo third and fourth respectively. The Cougars and Lumberjacks are the only remaining schools under par.
 
Only four schools finished their second round Tuesday and are done for the tournament: Pepperdine (+12), Minnesota (+14), Rutgers (+18) and Delaware (+22).
 
Terez Melecka of ETSU holds a one-shot lead with seven holes remaining. Her score of -7 is one shot better than Kerstin Fotu (-6) of BYU who shared the lead with Anna Catherine Krekling of Denver after 18 holes yesterday. Krekling is at -5 overall with three holes remaining.
 
Geraldine Wong of Minnesota is the clubhouse leader at -3 overall. Wong shot a round of 73 on Tuesday and currently sits tied for fifth.
