THE FIRST SERVE
• For its final event of the fall season, the NM State tennis team embarks on a journey to Pac-12 country in order to take part in the Arizona Invitational. The three-day event is set to take place at the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center from Friday-Sunday, Oct. 1-3.
• Action will begin at 8:00 a.m. each day.
THE FIELD
• Five NM State players - Gijs Akkermans, Corey Clarke, Ryan Ford, Louis Menard and Martin Simecek - make the Aggies one of six teams who are sending players to Tucson. In addition to NM State, Arizona, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Northern Arizona and Mesa Community College have student-athletes competing in the three-day event.
THE DRAWS
• Two doubles draws - the Red Draw and Blue Draw - will be played as will four singles draws. Those singles draws consist of the Blue Draw, Red Draw, White Draw and the Gray Draw.
• Menard and Simecek have been placed in the Red Draw where they'll take on Gonzaga's twosome of Arthus de la Bassetiere and Theo McDonald.
• Akkermans and Clarke are slated to join forces once again and will make up the Aggies' other doubles team. They have been slotted in the Blue Draw and will begin their run at the Arizona Invitational by facing off with the Gonzaga duo of Pablo Gomez Galvan and Tom Hann.
• Two of the Aggies' five singles competitors are in the 12-man Gray Draw. Clarke will battle Northern Arizona's Mikael Purne in a first-round matchup while Ford has been placed up against Mesa Community College's Andrew Hoffman.
• Menard is the Aggies' lone competitor in the eight-man Blue Draw. He'll hope to keep his excellent fall season going beginning with a first-round bout against Northern Arizona's Dominik Buzonics.
• In the Red Draw for singles sits Simecek who will do battle with Gonzaga's Oliver Andersson in one of the four first-round matchups in that particular draw.
• Eight individuals comprise the field for the White Draw in singles action. For NM State, Akkermans resides there and his first-round matchup pits the Dutchman against Mesa Community College's Beto Carlon.
