LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A trio of new faces are set to join the NM State women's golf team for the 2022-23 academic year and beyond head coach Danny Bowen announced Monday.
"This is our first class together for [assistant coach] Sophie [Newlove] and I," commented Bowen. "She played a big role in helping make sure we brought in a solid group. I owe a lot of credit to her as she was able to get her feet wet a little bit with the NLI process. This should be a great group of girls that want to work hard. They'll each have their opportunities to come in and impact the team as freshman. We can't wait to get them all on campus."
Emma Bunch | Freshman | Lynge, Denmark
• One of the best players on the Danish golf scene, chosen for the Danish National Ladies Team in 2022.
• Chosen for a spot on the Danish National Girls Team in 2020.
Bowen on Bunch | "Emma will be an immediate impact player on our roster and fight for our top spot from day one. She has a wealth of international experience and is a grinder which is why she's already ranked inside the Top500 of
World Amateur Golf Rankings. Her game is very polished already which includes length off of the tee and a great short game to go along with it. Emma was four-for-four in cuts made this year in LET ACCESS professional events as well as having numerous other great finishes with the rest of her tournaments in Denmark. We can't wait to see what she can accomplish while at NM State!"
Kaylee Chen | Freshman | Denver, Colo./Cherry Creek High School
• Captured the Colorado Junior Amateur Championship in 2019.
• Named the Series Player of the Year in 2017.
• Earned Tour Player of the Year honors in 2019.
Bowen on Chen | "Kaylee comes to us from Colorado in search of warm winters and year-round golf, which is exactly what she's going to find. She has played very well in the junior golf scene in Colorado as well as some recent AJGA's. We look forward to her continuing to play with that confidence at NMSU. What we are most excited about with Kaylee is her upside and potential to become even better in College. It will be fun to watch and help her progress!
Marley Moncada | Freshman | Tucson, Ariz./Cienega High School
• Posted a runner-up finish at the Arizona State Division II Girl's Golf Championship in 2021.
• Helped lead her team to a top-25 finish in the state of Arizona in 2018.
Bowen on Moncada | "Marley is going to be a great Aggie. She has family ties within NM State and Las Cruces so we know she's going to be invested in the full student-athlete experience during her four years. Marley is the type of athlete that doesn't let anyone outwork her, so it will be fun to bring her into an environment where she can thrive with teammates that push her along the way as well. She is someone who is also never afraid to be under par so we're excited to get to work with her!"
